2. The way I see it you have to create an office 365 account and then add the connected mailbox, in this case.gmx.net, to your existing account. The Sending and Receiving email would still be the office 365 mail address and not the.@gmx.net right? But this makes sense cause you can't create an office 365 account with a @gmx.net domain right?

SMTP relay empowers Office 365 to relay emails on your behalf by using your public IP address (or a certificate) to authenticate Office 365. This is the fall-back option when SMTP client submission isn't compatible with your business needs or device configurations or if email must be sent to external recipients, ruling out direct transmission. This test will check the external domain name settings for your verified domain in Office 365. The test will look for issues with mail delivery such as not receiving incoming email from the Internet and Outlook client connectivity issues that involve connecting to Outlook and Exchange Online. Post Office Protocol 3 (POP3) is an email protocol that is widely used to receive email. In POP3, your emails are downloaded from the server and stored locally on your device. This way, you can access your emails even if you're offline — you only need to be online to download them!

You can connect to your Office 365 that use the POP3 or IMAP4 Internet protocols. Connecting to your Office 365 email account using POP3 or IMAP4 only lets you send and receive email. You can't connect to your contacts, tasks, or calendar when you connect to your account using POP3 or IMAP4.

• On the My account page, click Settings for POP or IMAP access....
• The POP3, IMAP4, and SMTP server name and other settings you may need to enter are listed on the Settings for POP or IMAP Access page under POP setting or IMAP setting, and SMTP setting.
